Terms and conditions 2024

Terms and conditions at the                         Jacqueline Harman School of Ballet

  1. NO REFUNDS in any capacity - Once fees are paid there are no refunds.
  2. FULL BALLET FEES ARE PAID AT THE BEFORE/BEGINNING OF EACH NEW TERM - Only students who have paid and their name is on the register will be admitted to the class.
  3. LEAVING THE SCHOOL- 6 week written notice is required if you intend to leave the school
  4. Invoices - are sent out by WhatsApp 2 weeks before the end of each term, where we invite parents to pay the next FULL TERM FEES before the closing date.
  5. Fees - are paid in advance for the next term to secure your child's place. Once fees are paid, fees are non refundable for any reason what so ever. This includes snow or any bad weather. The school is under contract with halls/studios, which still require payment even if we cancel.
  6. Payment methods - you can pay the fees in different ways. You can pay either by cash or by online bank transfer. Please put cash in an envelope.
  7. Free Trial class – all new pupils are offered a free trial class. After which the balance of the fees should be paid to secure the place. Balance of fees are pro rata, this means you only pay for the remaining lessons for the current term.
  8. Leaving – half a term's notice in writing will be required if you wish to withdraw your child from the Jacqueline Harman School of Ballet or payment in lieu. Failure to notify the ballet school will result in half a term's fees being charged.
  9. New pupil attire – for a trial class, girls should wear leggings and a t-shirt, boys should wear a white t-shirt and shorts/tracksuit bottoms.
  10. SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY - Uniform & ballet shoes – you can order/purchase the ballet school uniform from Miss Jacqui or Miss Courtney once pupils have signed up for the term. Please see the uniform price list on the website. It is important to purchase the correct school uniform chosen by Miss Jacqui. This is for discipline reasons, health and safety purposes and for wearing when taking examinations.
  11. Hair – girls should always have hair tied back off the face for health and safety purposes. A ballet bun is ideally required and parents are encouraged to learn how to do this.
  12. Toilet – children are encouraged to go to the toilet before they come into their ballet class, however, if the children ask during class and it is safe to do so, I always let them go to the toilet. The nursery children are usually very good at asking and parents are required to be nearby and are not allowed to leave the building while their child is in the ballet class. When using a public space like leisure centres I have to make a risk assessment in letting them go. Older children can go in twos younger children will need to be accompanied by their parent.
  13. Watching day recital – I always cordially invite parents and family to our end of term watching day recitals. This is to see how your child is progressing and gives you an opportunity to talk to me about their progress. Some children can be very shy. I encourage them but never force them to dance on the day. Other children love to perform and want to show their parents what they can do. Photography and videos are permitted as long as there are no objections.
  14. Taking photographs – parents are strictly not allowed to take photos/video during normal class times through the windows of the doors while waiting outside the studio. This is very important, as other parents have not given permission. I cannot give consent on their behalf so please do not take photos or film.
  15. Parents are not allowed in the studio/hall during classes – parents are not permitted to be in the studio/hall during normal term time classes unless invited by Miss Jacqui or Miss Courtney.
  16. Parents behaviour – I reserve the right to have removed any parent/family member who verbally abuse me or any other member of ballet staff while on private property. Bad language and any inappropriate behaviour by a parent will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to call the police and have the abuser removed. Students, parents and their families are required to behave with respect and discipline while on site at different branches of the Jacqueline Harman School of Ballet. Students, parents and family are ambassadors for the school while attending ballet lessons in a public space such as leisure centres.
  17. Water in class – children are permitted to bring water bottles into class however please endeavour to make sure that it is only water you are providing.
  18. Jewellery – jewellery is not permitted in class. Jewellery is permitted on religious grounds and fit bit watches are also permitted. However, if a child gets injured due to a pupil wearing a fit bit I will ask the item to be removed for the remainder of the class.
  19. Pupils information – always inform the office of any changes to pupil’s details, mobile number or address in writing. In regards to how pupil information is stored and used under the general data protection regulations, pupil information is never shared with a third party or held on a data base by the Jacqueline Harman School of Ballet. In regard to Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Examinations HQ the Jacqueline Harman School of Ballet is a data collector of a data collector when pupils are entered for ballet exams.
  20. Increase in fees – fees are subject to a small increase sometimes in April due to hall/studio tariff increases. As soon as I know parents are informed as soon as possible.
  21. Discrimination – the Jacqueline Harman School of Ballet does not discriminate against background, race, nationality or religion.
  22. Physical contact – on occasions it is necessary to use physical contact, helping the pupil be aware of and understand muscle groups, body shape, alignment and posture.
